How To Make Your Resume Stand Out

blog - resume stand out

Entering into the world of public relations and social media management can seem daunting. At Be Inspired PR, we are dedicated to sharing our expertise with people who are excited about our field of work! Your resume is an essential part of the job search process. It is the first reflection of who you are as a person and what you bring to the table. Making your resume stand out does not have to be complicated! Start with these four easy steps.

Pay Attention To Your Audience

When you’re creating your resume, bring in experience and positions suitable to the role. Read over the job requirements and see what in your own life matches it! The software you’ve used, tasks you’ve completed, etc., can all show a possible employer that you are equipped for the job.

For a role such as social media manager, it would be great to see the social media work you have done in the past. This would also include explaining the scheduling platforms, content creation, and analytics you have encountered before. Not every employer is looking for the same skills. Be sure to read the job description clearly before applying!

Keep It To The Point

While we know you have an immense amount to offer and a limited page to do it, keep your resume short and to the point. Being able to speak concisely says a lot! You will showcase talent in something as simple as only using one page.

The key to breaking down your experience to the most critical factors. This gives you the ease of not explaining each role in a paragraph. Short snippets of information will give the employer a quick idea of what you accomplished.

Let Your Creativity Shine

While it is not a large space to do it, your resume is a space to let your creativity shine. Bring some graphic design elements or color. However, be sure to use them in a way that highlights your other talents, not distracts from them. It is easy to make a resume too busy if you do not find that balance.

After looking at resume after resume, an employer would love to see something that steps out of the box. The importance of this is doing what speaks to YOU as a person. It is a great way to showcase your personality and how you want the employer to feel when they see your name. Decide what that is and go for it!

Proofread & Have Others Look It Over

Proofread. Proofread. Proofread. It is heartbreaking to put hours into designing the perfect resume and then realize there is a typo after you’ve already submitted it. There is so much software out there to ensure your resume looks grammatically perfect.

On the other hand, those people around you are great options too. Have your friends, family, or someone at your work or school look over your resume. They will be able to tell you if they think it accurately reflects you and if the grammar is correct. This is an easy way to get another opinion before submitting it to the employer.

As a social media management firm, we have read our fair share of resumes and submitted our own! Knowing that people are entering the field overwhelms us with joy, and we want to make sure that you go into the job search with all of the keys to success.
